Environmental Decision Models with Joint Outputs

چکیده

Frequently undesirable outputs are produced together with desirable. This joint production of bad and good outputs in connection with environmental decision models is the subject of this paper. Recently Haynes, Ratick, Bowen and Cummings-Saxton (1993) addressed the same subject matter. They observed that: "... input resources, including the chemicals of concern, produce as joint products the saleable product and the undesired environmental residuals." (p. 271) However, rather than model the undesirable residuals as output, they view them as inputs in their DEA (= Data Envelopment Analysis) model. Building on earlier work by Shephard and Färe (1974), we show how the jointness between desirable and undesirable outputs can be incorporated into environmental decision models. We follow Färe, Grosskopf and Pasurka (1986) (1989) and Färe, Grosskopf, Lovell and Pasurka (1989), who also discuss various approaches to modeling pollution and environmental regulation. _______________

Common weights for the evaluation of decision-making units with nonlinear virtual inputs and outputs

In this paper, by investigating the common weights concept and DEA models with nonlinear virtual inputs/outputs, we introduce a model for evaluating the decision making units with nonlinear virtual inputs and outputs based on the common weights.

Computing the efficiency interval of decision making units (DMUs) having interval inputs and outputs with the presence of negative data

The basic assumption in data envelopment analysis patterns (DEA) (such as the CCR andBCC models) is that the value of data related to the inputs and outputs is a precise andpositive number, but most of the time in real conditions of business, determining precisenumerical value is not possible in for some inputs or outputs. For this purpose, differentmodels have been proposed in DEA for imprecis...

Some Conditions for Characterizing Minimum Face in Non-Radial DEA Models with Undesirable Outputs

The problem of utilizing undesirable (bad) outputs in DEA models often need replacing the assumption of free disposability of outputs by weak disposability of outputs. The Kuosmanen technology is the only correct representation of the fully convex technology exhibiting weak disposability of bad and good outputs. Also, there are some specific features of non-radial data envelopment analysis (DEA...

Ranking of decision making units based on cross efficiency by undesirable outputs and uncertainity

Cross efficiency is one of the useful methods for ranking of decision making units (DMUs) in data envelopment analysis (DEA). Since the optimal solutions of inputs and outputs weights are not unique so the selection of them are not simple and the ranks of DMUs can be changed by the difference weights. Thus, in this paper, we introduce a method for ranking of DMUs which does not have a unique pr...

Two Methods for Measuring the Environmental Returns to Scale Using Data Envelopment Analysis Approach

Nowadays, the assessment of environmental performance has received considerable attention by environmental strategy advocators and decision makers. In recent years, increased emission of CO2 into the air, water pollution, and global warming are universal problems all over the world. Therefore, development of firms with less CO2 emission is an important issue of attention in every area of produc...
